Giving My Whip Hand A Rest

It’s not all

Whips and chains

And tears

A lot of times

It’s laughter

And letting me vent

My fears.

It’s gossip

And research

And cheesy side-bets

Over the silliest things

Like which of our neighbors

Will get the boot next

It’s cheesecake

It’s wine

It’s ice cream

At dusk

It’s talking

For hours

Over what’s bugging us

It’s always fulfilling

To remember why

At times

He’s the best

Those are the times

I give my whip hand

A rest
